Eish website access

The Eish website can be accessed by using the following link:
http://eish.health.wits.ac.za/1/

Username: generic2013
Password: password

Students then click on lectures, GEMP 1, and all will be in the relevant folder.

Website access

  • Students can access the GEMP website for GEMP 1 notices ONLY. Students who do not have access with username and password can use the following:
    • Username: generic2013
    • Password: password
    • This will only work till the end of February.
  • All lecture notes and practical’s that have been taught can be viewed on Eish. This is done the same way as viewing podcasts (notice was placed 10 Jan on how to do this – see below). It can be viewed in the "GEMP 1" folder.
    • connect a computer to the Wits network
    • either press the Windows key and the R key OR click the Start button, and then the "run" command
    • type in \\eish.health.wits.ac.za\lectures
    • when requested, enter the following credentials:
      • username: health\student
      • password: password
    • there are three folders within this share which give you access to podcasts, lectures, and clinical skills presentations.

A notice will be placed as soon as the GEMP website technical issues have been resolved.

CHSE Lockers

GEMP students may rent a locker from CHSE for an annual fee of R130

Please note:

  1. The rental fee of R130 must be paid ANUALLY, in advance and in full. This amount is nonrefundable
  2. Proof of payment has to be attached to this application before a locker will be assigned
  3. Return the application form and proof of payment to CHSE Academic Admin
  4. Students have to supply their own lock for their allocated locker
  5. If you misplace the key to your lock you will be held responsible for the fee to open/cut the lock
  6. Students may not share lockers as this is a security risk for which The Centre for Health Science Education (CHSE) will not be held liable
  7. Students are not allowed to use a locker if a rental fee has not been paid for the locker. In such an instance the locker will be opened, emptied and locked with a CHSE lock. You will be required to pay the R130 rental fee before your property will be returned by CHSE.
  8. CHSE will not be held responsible for the loss or damage to any student property kept in the lockers
  9. All maintenance matters regarding your locker should be reported to CHSE Academic Admin immediately at which time another locker will be assigned to you
  10. ALL LOCKERS MUST BE EMPTIED BY NO LATER THAN FRIDAY 29 NOVEMBER 2013. AFTER THIS DATE CHSE WILL CUT YOUR LOCK AND REMOVE ALL ITEMS FROM YOUR LOCKER. YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO IDENTIFY AND COLLECT YOUR BELONGINGS FROM CHSE IN THE FOLLOWING YEAR.

Health Science Christian Fellowship

The Health Science Christian fellowship would like to invite all GEMP students to come meet us outside the Adler museum on Friday. Come sign up for our mailing list to hear about all the exciting things happening on our campus this year. We will also be hosting our first fellowship meeting on Wednesday from 13:05-13:50 in the Adler Museum library.

We offer non-denominational fellowship meetings, support, and Christ’s love to all future health professionals.

  1. Open the Libguides page –http://libguides.wits.ac.za/
  2. Under the Guides heading find WHSL e-Resources in Health Care
  3. Search under ebooks alphabetical list, M, for Medical Microbiology: A Guide to Microbial Infections: Pathogenesis, Immunity, Laboratory Diagnosis and Control. 18th ed. Greenwood. (2012)
  4. Click on it. You will then be asked to log in (library pin etc.)
  5. A screen will come up telling you that this is probably not the site you were looking for. It is wrong – click on "proceed anyway".
  6. It may take some time for the book to open.
  7. Click on the chapter you want.

Note: follow the same scheme as above but search for "General and Systematic Pathology" to get Underwood, the prescribed anatomical pathology textbook.

Extra Time students

Please hand in a copy of your letter confirming that you are allowed extra time for exams in 2013. You need to do this at the start of every academic year. Your cellphone numbers at the Faculty Administration

This year CHSE is going to use a mass sms notification system for various purposes, e.g. cancellation of events, unexpected changes of times, problems with transport arrangements etc. For this purpose we need you to check that the cellphone number you have lodged with the Faculty administration is correct. If you have changed your number since your first admission please see Mrs Thaboitha Magethi at Faculty Administration about updating it on their records.

About PBL sessions

The above sessions will be done in PBL rooms 3M02, 4 and 6 in the M-corridor at CHSE, Academic Admin. Students must FIRST report to the venue allocated on the timetable. You will then be taken to the relevant PBL room.
